Barcelona is a city in Spain, located 120 km (75 mi) south of the Pyrenees and the Catalan border with France. With an estimated 2015 population of 1,604,555, it is second largest city in the country.

The first traces of settlement in the area of modern Barcelona date back to the 3rd century B.C. Barcelona was first mentioned in written sources in around 237 B.C.

In the early 11th century, it was granted city rights by Count of Barcelona Ramon Berenguer II (1053/1054–1082). The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, dates to 1448, is one of the oldest surviving building in Barcelona.

Barcelona is the home of many points of interest declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO: Park Güell (1984), Palau de la Música Catalana (1997), Sagrada Família (2005).

  3. I went to Barcelona on a cruise once and it was gorgeous! I wish we had more time to spend in the city, but that's the downfall of going on a cruise. We went up to Montserrat which was just amazing!
