The Kerepesi Cemetery is the most famous cemetery in Budapest and one of the oldest cemeteries in Hungary.

The cemetery was open in 1847 as a burial ground for all religious backgrounds. The cemetery covers an area of about 56 hectares (140 acres).

Many famous people are buried in the graveyard: Miklós Barabás (painter; 1810–1898), Miklós Ybl (architect; 1814– 1891), Mihály Károlyi (1st President of Hungary; 1875–1955), Lipót Fejér (mathematician; 1880–1959).

There is a recommended walking tour for visitors, which includes the most prominent graves.

Take Subway (M2) to Keleti Railway Station and take the short walk over to Fiumei ut, where the main entrance is.
