Budapest, Hungary

Hungary, Budapest

Budapest is the capital of Hungary, located 216 km (134 mi) south-east of Vienna, 545 km (339 mi) south of Warsaw. With an estimated 2017 population of 1,752,700, it is the largest city in the country.

The first traces of settlement in the area of modern Budapest date back to the 1 century AD. In 1873, Buda and Pest were officially merged with the third part, Óbuda (Old Buda), thus creating the new metropolis of Budapest. With Gothic remains, the Inner City Parish Church, built in the 12th century, is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Budapest.

In 1987, Budapest was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List for the cultural and architectural significance of the Banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter and Andrássy Avenue.

  14. What an incredible cultural experience. We would love to visit here when our youngest is a bit older. I don't mind traveling with young children but at three, she isn't great with boundaries and this is one place I wouldn't want her disrupting everywhere we went!
