The Basilica of St. Stephen is a Roman Catholic church in Budapest, Hungary.

The church was built in 1851–1906, in the style of the Neo-Renaissance by the Hungarian architect Josef Hild (1789–1867).




In 1931, Pope Pius XI (1857–1939) awards the church the title “basilica minor”.

With a width of 55 metres (180 ft), length of 87.4 metres (287 ft), and height of 96 metres (315 ft), this is the highest church in Budapest and the third highest church building in present-day Hungary.

  3. The architecture of the Basilica of St. Stephen is astounding! I can see why it took over 50 years to build in the time. It must be something to be that detailed and the highest in Budapest. Thank-you for sharing, I would bever have a clue of such beauty with out you and others like you.

  6. I been to Budapest few years ago during my eastern Europe trip. Seen the Basilica of St. Stephen and felt it totally stunning architecture, especially the colorful window glass. I also love the dome at the top which are painted with intricate pictures. Thanks for including the youtube, it helps me to remember again fond memory of my Budapest trip.
