The River Seine is a river in northern France. It rises in the Langres plateau of northeasten France, about 30 km (19 mi) northwest of Dijon, and flows for some 777 km (483 mi) to its mouth on the English Channel at Le Havre.

The Seine source is at an height of 471 m (1,545 ft) above sea level. Its basin is 78,910 km² (30,470 sq mi). The river has an average discharge of 560 m³/s (19,776 cu ft/s).

The River Seine flows for 13 km (8 mi) through Paris from east to west at 27 m (88 ft) above sea level. The average depth of the Seine today at Paris is about 9.5 m (31 ft). There are 37 bridges within the city.

In 1991, UNESCO added the banks of the Seine in Paris to its list of World Heritage Sites in Europe.
